If you are reading this “now”, you missed the grand opening, but the overlook is open 24/7/365. Call the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum about scheduled tours of the whole historic mining area. The tours are organized through the museum in Victor; learn more here.

Ok, sure Kevin, the tour sounds like fun but is there any gold I can pan there? Well, maybe barely. There is an open space park at the south end of 2nd Ave in Cripple Creek that includes a stretch of the infamous Cripple Creek next to the sewage treatment plant. You may find a few micro-specks there, as I did, but there’s a reason they called this area “Poverty Gulch” back in the day!! Want to learn more about places to go gold prospecting? Check out my books here.

Would you make more money off visitors panning?
Garry there’s no charge for this event.
The mine produces 350-400,000 ounces of gold per year!
Love to go, but a bad time for me to do so, what with classes going on. Dave
