Finding Gold in Colorado Historic Sites & Modern Prospecting Honey Holes

About me & this site

FindingGOLDinColorado provides all the info you need to successfully pan for gold in Colorado. Lots of areas in Colorado are open to the public for casual, low-impact gold prospecting… I have over 30 listed here. There’s also info on the basics around tools and techniques. I intend this site to be especially helpful to newer prospectors and those visiting our beautiful state.

Please reach out to me with any questions 🙂 Even better, buy the guidebook  and join the Facebook group ‘Finding Gold in Colorado’ where a whole community of Colorado prospectors and visiting prospectors can answer your questions, arrange to meet you at the river and more!

This Site:

The site is exactly what I wish existed when I went looking for info years ago, I hope you find it helpful now. I’m an avid gold prospector and traveler. I am also the author of a book about gold in Colorado – both the historical sites worth visiting and the modern-day public prospecting opportunities. Buy it here.

My Background:

While I was fascinated with mining gold and opals as a kid, and I started gold panning in 1989 as a young adult, it wasn’t until my kids basically grew up that I really dug deep (pun intended!) into the topic. From 2011 on, I’ve been avidly researching and gathering information as well as extending my skills and field experience. I still have those first gold pans I bought in 1989 too 🙂

I spend a lot of time prospecting in Colorado, and I’ve been able to prospect successfully in 8 US states, in Canada and in Portugal. Prospecting has led to lots of friends, lots of great adventures, and I’ve also found some nice gold. I hope you do too!

Constructive Disclaimer:

With all the information available on the internet today, it’s amazing what you can learn about almost anything. This has transformed casual gold prospecting from something secretive, confusing, and arcane, into an activity anyone can learn and do successfully. I’ve been amazed at what I’ve been able to find, and I look forward to sharing it here and in the book. If you are interested in getting started in Colorado gold prospecting for fun, or are already an active, casual gold prospector, or are planning a trip around Colorado, I think this site will be helpful to you.
